Brief Directions By Road
(Courtesy of RUFC) Two options for you, both as broad as its long - From M1 Junction 33 at the roundabout turn right onto Rotherway (A630). At the next roundabout take the first exit onto West Bawtry Road (still the A630) and then stay with the signs for Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham as you follow the ring road for the next two to three miles through a succession of roundabouts until the Masbrough roundabout where you turn left. The ground is clearly signposted from this direction?. Or leave the M1 at its Junction 34 where there are more options for a pre match stop off in a pub and look out for the A6109 towards Rotherham. You will meet a large roundabout which junctions the A629 where you need to turn right. Stay on the A629 over another roundabout and then at yet another much larger roundabout turn right and you will see the ground. The floodlights are clearly visible from some distance away so you shouldn't experience any problems.
Car Parking
Street parking is freely available or there is a small car park behind the Main Stand which costs £2 but this will be full very early in the afternoon. There is another car park behind the Zone's Nightclub on Main Street available for a charge.
Directions By Train
An early morning train from Kings Cross will take about 4 hours involving a change at Doncaster. Rotherham Central Station is 10 minutes from Millmoor. Turn left out of the station and head for the roundabout then simply the signs directing you.
Supporters Coaches
Coach travel to away fixtures this season is being organised by the Barnet Football Club Supporters Association. For further details about Supporters coach travel and how to book check out the BFCSA website at www.bfcsa.co.uk.
Eating And Drinking Locally
A couple of local pubs to consider, all safe according to my spies: The Butchers Arms on Midland Road, ten minutes walk from the ground or The Moulders Rest on Masbrough Street roughly the same distance. My spies tell me that The Millmoor Café on Masbrough Street serves up a tip top all day English Brekkie or a wicked Pie and Mash.
The Ground Description
Administration problems have hounded the club for a number of years so the ground is still in transition. The main stand at Millmoor is uncompleted but will hold some 4,500 seats. Directly opposite three separate stands sit uncomfortably side by side. The centre section is the oldest flanked by two converted terraces. The covered Trivoli End is where the most vocal of the Millers fans congregate while we will be offered the Railway End. Both of these stands are also converted terraces but do offer reasonable views. Reckless wonder fact: the away terrace is accessible via a notorious narrow alleyway made famous in the football hooligan film ID! May I just mention the splendid floodlights that are enormous, some 125 feet high.
The current capacity is around 9,000.
Rivals
Both Sheffield clubs, Doncaster and Barnsley.
Admission Prices
£20.00 adults, Concessions £12.00.
Previous Encounters and Memories
The last visit to Millmoor was way back in October in 1999 when The Millers won comfortably 2-0. The opening game in the 1997-98 season saw a rampant Bees run out 3-2 winners thanks to Michael Harle, Sean Devine and an own goal. However the most memorable for many older supporters was the final game in the infamous 1993-4 season when an already relegated Barnet pulled off a 1-1 draw courtesy of a Mark Newson goal in front of a boisterous conga dancing, fancy dressed away following intent on just one thing, enjoying every single minute remaining of what was then 2nd Division football. Rival fans mingled on the pitch and much fun was had by all.
Celebrity Watch
The place is riddled with comedians and actors not least Paul and Barry Elliott better known to you and me as The Chuckle Brothers. Barry's brother in law is Hi De Hi's Paul Shane while their cousin was Lynne Perrie (Ivy in Corrie). I didn't actually use the words "good"or "talented" you notice. England goalkeeper David Seaman was born here and lets face it where would we all be with out him? Jeremy Clarkson used to work at BSM in the High Street before getting his break in TV while Fred Trueman lived just a good length from the ground.
Overnight Stay Factor
Last game of the season and the Player of the Year "do" the following night therefore 0/10?????
I would just like to say thank you to all those who thanked me for this seasons guides I hope you enjoyed reading them and even found them useful occasionally! Anyone get lost?
Enjoy the summer, Reckless.
