Saturday 4th August 2007
Kick Off 3.00 p.m.
Stadium: The Glassworld Stadium, Bridge Road, Impington, Cambridge, CB24 9PH
Telephone: 01223 237373
Club Colours: Red & Black
Nickname: The Stutes
Official Club Website: www.histonfc.co.uk
Key Personnel: Manager Steve Fallon
Brief Directions By Road:
Fairly straightforward journey this one! M11 to its junction 14. Turn onto the A14 (signposted Newmarket and Ipswich) until its junction 32, which is the first main intersection you encounter where you take the B1049 (signposted Histon). Pass the Holiday in and then go over the railway line descending the hill. The Stadium is immediately on the right about a mile from the A14.
Parking: Parking is a problem at the ground as the car park is restricted for officials and disabled only. Local street parking is available in the village and will be clearly marked. It may be wise to park north of the ground and walk back.
Directions By Train:
The nearest station is Cambridge itself as there is no railway station in Histon. The City 7 bus runs regularly from Cambridge station to Histon Village via the City Centre every 10-15 minutes. Ask for the ground or the BUPA Hospital for the nearest stops.
Supporters Coaches:
For information check out the BFCSA website at www.bfcsa.co.uk.
Eating And Drinking Locally:
The general consensus of opinion from Histon fans is that the Red Lion on the High Street is the best bet for friendliness and a great selection of real ales. The food menu is plain (which usually means very good) and gargantuan in portion sizes. Other decent places on the high street include The Boot Inn and The Barley Mow. The closest pub to the ground is The Railway Vue on Station Road.
The Social Club:
Is to be found behind the main stand and normally not available for away supporters. However this is a pre season game and one shouldn't have a problem getting in.
Ground Description:
Histon has only really been a force in the non-league football scene since the turn of the century. Its current capacity is around 3,200 which will just about cope with rigours of the Blue Square Premier League (Conference). The main stand is the focal point of the ground with seating for about 300. The remainder of the ground is shallow terracing with some cover available on all sides (approx. accommodation 1,800) albeit the ultra modern portable style terraces with metal steps and low roofs. The ground will soon be used as the Cambridgeshire Football association HQ therefore ground Improvements are imminent. The grandstand is to be extended and some 500 seats are to be installed on the far terrace by the autumn 2007.
Normal Admission Prices:
Adults £12.00 Concessions £7.00 Under 16's £3.00 - but prices reduced to £10.00 and £5.00 concessions for this game.
Celebrity Watch:
Ex Underhill favourites Craig Pope and Danny Naisbitt are on the playing staff at Histon.
