Oliver Allen

Stop press. A record is still very much ON. Yes, most left Underhill yesterday thinking that a record attempt had been halted, but that is not the case.

Yesterday, Oliver Allen continued his own record of scoring in every game since his first team start four outings ago by notching his fourth goal in a Barnet shirt as Stockport County conceded their first goals in nine games, suffering their first defeat as well during that period.

It was the away side who stated the game the brighter of the two sides and Ross Flitney did well to deny David Poole, running proceedings early on, Anthony Elding and Tes Bramble with smart saves.

It was Allen, watched by Dad Clive, who was first to strike at the County goal for the Bees but his strikes in the 16th and 18th minute respectively failed to test Wayne Hennessey, the on-loan keeper from Wolves.

Joe Devera went closer to breaking the deadlock in the 19th minute when he met a Jason Puncheon corner, but again Hennessey was equal to the effort.

Poole then saw a further effort go wide for the away side, but the Hatters were to break the deadlock with their next move of the game in the 33rd minute when Bramble planted his header into the net at the front post following an in-swinging corner by Michael Rose.

Barnet responded well and Adam Birchall went close when he turned his man before firing inches over from 25 yards.

A minute before half time, though, and Hennessey was to concede the first goal in his professional career when the young in-form Bees striker Allen turned superbly on the edge of the area before seeing his deflected strike nestle into the goalkeepers bottom right hand corner.

Barnet began the second half in the ascendancy and they were to go ahead in the 47th minute when Dean Sinclair saw the ball break to him in the penalty box and his left footed strike from 15 yards squirmed into the left hand corner of Hennessey's net.

Paul Fairclough's side were now well on top and Ashley Williams headed an Adam Gross cross onto his own bar in the 49th minute, whilst three minutes later Allen was denied when his header was well held by Hennessey.

The Stockport keeper then kept his side in the game in the 58th minute with a fine triple save.  Twice the young keeper denied Puncheon, who saw his fierce drives pushed away whilst Allen then saw his weak strike held by the in-form Stockport man.

Two minute later, though, and Hennessey this time had Rob Clare to thank when the right back was in the right place at the right time to hook a Sinclair header off of his own line, whilst at the other end Flitney did well to hold onto efforts by Liam Dickinson and Elding.

Barnet were to seal victory and get their third goal of the game in the 83rd minute when substitute Liam Hatch broke free of a static Stockport back four before firing his left footed strike past Hennessey from 18 yards.

Fellow replacement Stuart Lewis then saw his strike go wide in injury time for the Bees who ran out 3-1 winners to end County's fine run of nine wins in a row with no goals conceded. For Oliver Allen, meanwhile, it's four first team starts, a goal in each game and a record attempt is still firmly on.
