Goals by Ian Hendon, Barry Cogan and Nicky Bailey sent the Bees back down south with the three points against Macclesfield Town on Saturday courtesy of a 3-2 victory against Brian Horton's side.
Paul Fairclough made two changes to his starting line-up following last week's 1-1 draw with Walsall at Underhill - Adam Gross earnt a recall at left back at the expense of Nicky Nicolau, whilst there was also a first start of the season for Jason Norville in attack in place of the rested Giuliano Grazioli.
It was the home side who started the game the brighter of the two sides and they nearly took the lead in the opening minute when Matthew Tipton's 25 yard free kick flashed just wide of Lee Harrison's right hand post.
Barnet quickly came into the contest, though, playing a patient passing game that was neat on the eye although chances at either end were at a premium in the opening fifteen minutes.
Jimmy McNulty shot high and wide in the 20th minute for the home side, whilst Cogan and Puncheon swapped flanks in an attempt to add a creative spark in the final third for the Bees.
However, it was the home side who were creating more in front of goal, despite the Bees domiance in posession, and they nearly took the lead in the 25th minute when a fine pass by Tipton split the Barnet defence but the on-rushing McNeil saw his low strike pushed around a post for a corner by Harrison.
Cogan then had Barnet's first effort on goal six minutes later but his strike from 25 yards went wide of Jonathan Brain's left hand post before Tipton did similarly at the other end a minute later for the Silkmen.
Tipton then shot straight at Harrison from fully 30 yards out before Bailey was denied a shooting chance following a fine last ditch challenge by Rob Scott.
In truth, though, after a bright start, neither side were able to take control in a game that was struggling to excite either set of supporters in the opening 45 minutes.
The home side made two changes at half time, and it was one of those substitutes who created the first chance of the first half when on-loan striker Spencer Weir-Daley shot over from 25 yards after Jamie Tolley won the ball ahead of off Adam Gross on the Bees left.
Tipton then had a goal ruled out for offside in the 50th minute as the home side looked to score the games opening goal.
And that goal did come just a minute later and the Bees will not be happy with their defending.
There looked to be no danger when Tipton's cross landed in the six yard box but with Harrison ready to collect, Hendon hit his clearance straight at McNeil in front of him and the ball lopped over the Bees keeper and into the top of the net.
Barnet looked to respond quickly after going behind and were unlucky in the 53rd minute when a Cogan effort deflected just over for a corner kick.
The home side were continuing to attack and they nearly doubled their lead five minutes later when Tolley's effort flashed just wide of Harrison's right hand post.
On the hour, though, and the Bees fans were treated to a goal when they equalised courtesy of an Ian Hendon penalty.
Dean Sinclair battled well on the edge of the Macclesfield penalty area before the ball rebounded to King, still forward from an earlier set piece. The Bees centre back tapped the ball ahead of Brain in the Silkmen goal before the big custodian put out an arm and pulled the Bees centre back down to the ground.
Up stepped Hendon and the Bees skipper made no mistake from twelve yards to send the visiting Barnet fans into a state of delirium behind the goal.
And just four minutes later and the fans from Underhill had further cheer when they took the lead when Puncheon's fine run down the right saw him slip the ball through to Bailey. His shot was palmed away by Brain, but Barry Cogan was there to tap home for his first goal in a Barnet shirt.
The Bees were now looking the sharper of the two sides and just two minutes after taking the lead, Cogan had another chance to score when he chased down a short back pass and Brain's clearance hit the Irishman. The ball looped up in the air to Norville but his header was claimed by the recovering Brain.
Just as the Bees looked to be taking control, the home side were to equalise in the 68th minute when a scramble in the Barnet box saw Bailey and King get in each others way and the ball broke to Tipton who made no mistake from eight yards to equalise for Brian Horton's side.
Weir-Daley then saw an effort pushed away for a corner by Harrison in the 72nd minute in a second half that drew no comparisons with the opening period in terms of attacking fluency.
Two minutes later and the Bees were to take the lead for the second time and it was that man Puncheon who was involved again.
The Bees had just introduced Magno Vieira in place of Norville in attack before Puncheon swung a corner in from the right and Bailey met the ball with a bullet like header that flew into the back of the net in the 73rd minute to send the Barnet fans wild once more.
Danny Swailes then saw an effort go over the crossbar following a Martin Bullock corner six minute from time as the home side looked to get something from the game.
Bailey then saw his 30 yard free kick drift just over two minutes from time as Barnet looked to close out the game and seal only their second three points of the season and their first win away from home in the league this campaign.
Bailey then saw another strike go over before Tolley shot over for Macclesfield in the first minute of added time.
That was the home sides final chance, though, and the Bees left Moss Rose with the maximum points in a second half, in truth, either side could have won.
