LOYAL LEE SIGNS ON AGAIN
Posted on: Sat 12 Jul 2008
Goalkeeper and club captain Lee Harrison, who has made 336 appearances for Barnet in two spells at Underhill over the past 10 years, signed a new two year deal on Friday.
Harrison, a fully qualified UEFA coach, again put pen to paper as a player with coaching responsibilities.
The 36-year-old fans' favourite over the years - he was Player of the Year in three successive seasons in his first spell with the club - was brought back to Underhill by Paul Fairclough as mentor to former keeper Ross Flitney but regained his old position as first choice goalie.
Lee made 40 appearances last season and restricted Rob Beckwith, who had injury problems, to 11 games. His landmark 300th appearance for the Bees was marked by a presentation from the club.
He was first signed from Fulham in 1996 by then manager Ray Clemence, an England international goalkeeper, as deputy to Maik Taylor, rated one of Barnet's greatest keepers, and although he moved to Leyton Orient in 2003 and then on to Peterborough United, Lee has completed a decade of loyal and successful service at Underhill.
Watching him in training this week, he won't surrender the No One jersey to the younger Beckwith easily.
