Brentford

Last Season 14th
It was a mixed season for the Bees of Brentford, ending a disappointing 14th having dropped from League One the season previous. Whilst never in any real relegation danger, Brentford were never really threatening the higher echelons of the table, though they did show a decent upturn in form under Andy Scott who took over permanently in January.

They also failed to leave a mark on cup competitions, falling at the first in all three. In the League Cup, Championship side Bristol City won 3-0 and the Johnstone's Paint Trophy where Swindon Town inflicted a 4-1 defeat on the Bees. They took League One Luton Town to a replay in the FA Cup, but were beaten 2-0 at Griffin Park.

Against Barnet
Brentford did the double over Barnet last season with a pair of 2-1 wins. Early on in the season, Brentford were victorious at Griffin Park in a poor game against a Barnet side who had already been hit by injuries and suspensions. Two penalties, one scored and one saved which was scored on the rebound came either side of another Jason Puncheon scorcher.

Barnet did everything but score in the first half of the return fixture which was a pulsating midweek affair. Brentford played their part as well, with both sides looking far more convincing than they had in August. Glenn Poole struck late in the half and added a penalty ten minutes from time to send over 1,000 Brentford fans home very happy indeed. Adam Birchall pulled a goal back in injury time after another mazy Adomah run, but it was too little too late.

Historically there have been plenty of goals between the two sides, most notably Barnet's first ever appearance in the League Cup, ending in a crazy 5-5 draw at Underhill, having just lost 7-4 at home to Crewe the previous Saturday in the club's first ever Football League match. The second leg produced four more, ending 3-1 to Brentford. In the same season there were more goals to speak of, a 6-3 win for Barnet at Griffin Park in the Autoglass Trophy, taking the total of goals over the three games to 23.

More recently, there was a memorable LDV Vans Trophy encounter at Underhill which Barnet eventually lost on penalties. The game was drawn 2-2 in normal time, and ended 3-3 after extra time. Unfortunately, the young Barnet side could not hold their nerve through the penalties, but it was a superb night's entertainment nonetheless.
