Albert Adomah, the 20-year-old winger who has made a startling rise to national prominence since joining Barnet from Ryman League Harrow Borough for an undisclosed fee early in January, has been transfer-listed after submitting a written request for a move.

After a meeting at Underhill today with Adomah and his advisers to discuss the player's future, the club, who wanted to retain him, announced that they "reluctantly" agreed to his request and, under the circumstances, were prepared to listen to offers.

Chairman Tony Kleanthous and manager Paul Fairclough were prepared to offer Adomah an improved contract, but it was made absolutely clear from the outset of talks that he wanted to move and a written request followed.

Club spokesman Dennis Signy said: "Let me make it quite clear that this is not something that Barnet FC wanted. We were hoping that Albert would fulfil his contract and help the Bees in the planned push for promotion next season".

There have, in fact, already been "significant" offers from Championship clubs that chairman Tony Kleanthous has resisted and rejected but Albert, who has achieved cult status at Underhill in his short stay, has attracted interest from managers, coaches and scouts from the Premiership downwards and generated transfer talk in the national Press and on TV and the radio.

Adomah told www.barnetfc.com : "I have made this move to try and achieve clarity on what is happening out there. Everything has happened very quickly since I joined Barnet".

Dennis Signy added: "Albert is an exciting young player who has made an impact from Day One at the end of January when he made a fairytale Football League debut away to Hereford United and scored.

"He has intimated that he wants to leave and, as the chairman and the manager have made it clear that we don't have to sell players, he then put in a written transfer request.

"He remains a Barnet player, but if the right deal is offered to us and the deal is also right for Albert he will go with our best wishes."
