Ian Hendon has accepted the offer of a new improved two year contract as assistant manager to Paul Fairclough ... a reward for his first year as a coach at Underhill.
The 36-year-old Hendon, who was an inspirational skipper who helped guide the side back to the Football League as Nationwide Conference champions, said: "I am delighted with the deal - Barnet has been such a big part of my life for the past five years".
Hendon, a former England U21 defender, was brought to Underhill by former manager Peter Shreeves, his mentor at both Tottenham Hotspur and Sheffield Wednesday and acknowledged as one of the top coaches in Britain.
Although he officially hung up his boots as a player 12 months ago,Hendon made three first team appearances last season and was used as a substitute twice.
Of the first 12 months of his new role in management, Hendon said: "It has been an eye opener for me. I am looking to help Paul to continue the improvement the team has shown since getting back into the League ... next season the aim is for a play-off place at least".
First at the training ground in the morning, Hendon has spent hours travelling to watch matches looking for talent to bring to Barnet.
Chairman Tony Kleanthous said: "This is great for Barnet FC. Ian played a big part in bringing the club forward as a player and has brought something extra to the training ground in his role alongside the manager".
