Ken Charlery, the former Barnet favourite who is currently assistant manager of Harrow Borough, is keeping a vigil by his teenage son's hospital bedside as he fights for life after being the victim of a drive-in shooting.

Kenny Charlery, who is 18, is in a coma and being kept alive by a life support scheme at the Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel. His condition is described as "critical".

The teenager was with his girl friend driving in Hackney when another vehicle drew up alongside and he was shot. His car swerved and hit a lamp-post.

Ken Charlery, always a popular figure at Underhill, works with another former Barnet favourite, David Howell, at Harrow Borough. Both were recently at a game at the ground watching the progress of Albert Adomah, who made 99 appearances for Borough before joining the Bees in January.

Ken was with Barnet from 1997-200 and scored 40 goals in 150 appearances.
