Bring Me Sunshine
Has it really been three months since the end of last season? Another campaign sits waiting for us once again and the newly assembled Barnet side have been given a tough test against Morecambe, who will be playing their first - ever Football League match.
The fixture list threw up a beauty as far as many supporters were concerned, with plans for weekend trips to the seaside planned from the moment the fixtures were released on June 14. I'll certainly be there!
The summer break has gone (if you can really call it summer!), and once again it's time to spend nine months of Saturdays dedicating time to Barnet FC. Irrespective of form in the last two years, we'll be there once again this year, come rain or shine, willing the boys on to victory.
The playing staff has been altered dramatically in the summer with the loss of some key players to leagues above. Nonetheless, the dressing room is flowing with confidence and the team are looking for success. Eight new players have been bought in at the time of writing and they have all fitted in well, the team spirit is high.
Pre-season has been a bit of a mixed bag. Arsenal were given a good game to open up, but a side strating with nine trialists were thrashed by Farnborough. The Crystal Palace game was the definitive game of two halves, a terrible first half for the Bees was followed by an encouraging second. The Bishop's Stortford match somehow drew a blank, but they finally got their shooting boots on at Northwood, St. Albans and Histon where we notched thirteen goals.
One thing that you can be certain of with this football club is that nothing is ever certain, and whatever supporters may be expecting from the season ahead, you can guarantee there'll be some entertainment on the way.
Morecambe will certainly be a tough test and they'll be looking to prove themselves in front of a big crowd to start the season. The two clubs and supporters enjoy a great relationship off the pitch, but hopefully there will be no love lost on it and we can spoil the party by taking the three points.
If you're planning on going to the game, make sure you check the Reckless Guide To Morecambe before heading up.
If you're not going, you can catch live commentary with Barry Swain on Barnet World from 2:55pm.
