Match Report: Northwood 0-5 Barnet
The Bees comfortably overcame Ryman North Division One side Northwood this afternoon at Chestnut Avenue.
On an excellent playing surface, Northwood nearly opened the scoring after two minutes as Max Porter had to clear a low shot off the line.
However, from the following counter-attack, Anthony Thomas gave Barnet the lead. Having been put through one-on-one, Thomas slid home past keeper Fishenden.
Thomas nearly added a second on ten minutes, when he struck a half volley well towards goal, however it was well taken by the Northwood keeper.
However, a second was on its way, and it came through trialist Rory May. Thomas was involved again, being slid through by Puncheon. His shot was blocked, but May followed up and passed the ball into the back of the net.
Barnet were well in charge and Ismail Yakubu nearly added a third on twenty minutes. Puncheon again played today's captain through, and he placed his shot just across the face of the goal.
On 27 minutes, Thomas was to smash home his second and Barnet's third. Michael Leary won the ball back in midfield and nodded the ball to Thomas, who turned and smacked the ball into the roof of the net from the edge of the box, leaving the keeper with absolutely no chance.
Jason Puncheon nearly got himself onto the scoresheet as half time closed in, but saw three shots well saved.
The Bees made a number of changes in the second half, yet they were still dominant over their opponents.
Ben Wright, who has a number of clubs in Norway to his name, twice went close in the opening stages. On 54 minutes, Stefan Seanla played a neat ball through, but Wright rolled inches wide of the post.
Liam Hatch came on later in the half at centre back, but missed a real sitter from a quickly taken corner. Hatch somehow headed over the bar from just yards out.
Barnet added a fourth late on when James Laws, formerly of Southend United, fired in a left foot shot which deflected through a crowd of bodies and into the corner of the net.
There was still time for a fifth and it was arguably the best goal of the game. Ben Wright was allowed to turn on the edge of the box and curl a left foot beauty right into the top corner.
Michael Bostwick came close to adding a sixth but was very unfortunate to see his low drive come back off the post on 90 minutes.
A comfortable 5-0 win for Barnet in the end and goals were much welcome after somehow drawing a blank at Bishop's Stortford on Tuesday. Conference South side St. Albans City are up next this coming Tuesday at Clarence Park.
