YOUNG BEES MISS OUT ON WEMBLEY
Barnet have missed out on a trip to Wembley.
At the beginning of the week, the Bees still had a chance to make it to the play - off finals at Wembley, but, following the southern regional finals of the Football League Community Cup, the Barnet Football in the Community team sadly report that they won't be going to Wembley.
St Bernadette's Catholic Primary School, from Harrow, who recently won the area final, represented Barnet FC at the excellent facilities of the New Meadow, Shrewsbury, on Wednesday but didn't manage to progress to the final which is being played on the hallowed Wembley turf before the League 2 play - off final.
Starting strongly, the Bees won an exciting opening tie 4-3 against Hereford and followed this up with a convincing 2 - 0 victory over the representatives from Wycombe. Leading the group, the 11-year- olds were looking strong, but a close 2-1 defeat to eventual winners MK Dons followed by a 3-0 defeat to a strong Notts County side meant that in order to qualify to the knock out stages Barnet relied on other results, which did not go their way.
David O'Farrell, Headteacher at St Bernadette's, said "it was an honour for the school and the children to have the opportunity to represent Barnet Football Club". He also felt it was "good for the children to have an opportunity to see the ground of a lower league club as most have only been to or seen Premiership grounds"
Pupil James Smith said on the coach on the way home that he was "disappointed",but added that he hadenjoyed the day out ....."it was better than a day at school!"
